Fairmont hotels and resorts are indisputably grand, and filmmakers have certainly noticed, placing them in more than 250 feature films over more than a century. From Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo to Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun to Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby (and—literally—hundreds more), there’s a good chance that one of your favourite movies has a Fairmont in it.
When the company wanted to showcase this glamorous history with an interactive, travelling exhibition, called Fairmont Loves Film, they started by gathering images and artefacts, and enlisted filmmaker Gia Coppola in the role of the Fairmont Loves Film Ambassador. We were delighted to work with the team to create a unique exhibit design, which also included promotional materials and a toolkit to help guide properties in hosting the exhibit.
Fairmont Loves Film made its red-carpet debut at Fairmont Royal York during TIFF, has travelled to London’s The Savoy, and will continue on to Shanghai.
Taking our cue from the look and feel of filmmaking, with graphics inspired by elements of the craft, such as the proportions of a film ratio, we created an identity system that is distinct from the corporate brand, but never competes with the material and events that the exhibition showcases.
