BOMA Canada’s National Awards program recognizes the country’s most outstanding achievements in commercial real estate—from innovative property management and sustainability to leadership in accessibility, service and design.

The awards program has long held industry prestige and had grown organically over the years. However, alongside this organic growth, the program’s visual identity system had not kept pace, resulting in a patchwork of logos and event materials that lacked consistency and clarity.

BOMA Canada needed a brand system that reflected the professionalism of its awards program, provided cohesion across multiple categories and communications, and supported regional customization without sacrificing brand unity.

We were engaged to refresh and formalize the program’s visual identity to help BOMA elevate its recognition platform across national and local association events, promotional campaigns and awards ceremonies.

After auditing the program’s many awards, we proposed a more consistent nomenclature to help streamline some categories.

Then, we designed a modern and flexible visual identity system; this system is anchored by a new National Awards Gala logo (for national events and communications) and a suite of category-specific logos, which can be adapted for local association use.

A new typographic system and colour palette offer better clarity and consistency in all brand communications.

To help support the BOMA team in using the new graphic identity system, we wrote and designed practical, easy-to-use guidelines covering key topics such as sponsorships, accessibility and co-branded marketing. We also produced a comprehensive brand toolkit, which empowers local chapters to create consistent, high-quality awards presentations.

The final piece to the project was to create and manage the production of a custom-designed award trophy—a trophy that reflects the values of innovation, excellence and permanence, and serves as a physical embodiment of the awards brand.

We partnered with an industrial designer to craft a trophy that people would be proud to display on their shelves. The faceted design uses varying columns to represent the different types of nominated buildings, culminating in the awards logo at the peak.

The entire brand identity system strengthens the credibility, prestige and visibility of the BOMA Canada National Awards program. Intuitive and scalable, it makes it easy for BOMA associations across Canada to deliver a consistent and elevated experience, from printed certificates to large-format event signage.

With new graphic design tools and clear brand guidelines in place, BOMA Canada and its regional associations can now present a unified voice, increasing recognition and pride across the commercial real estate industry.
